Climb Description
Cerro del Moro is one of the best cycling climbs starting from the Costa del Sol. Most of the route is quiet, with a nice road surface and the views on the upper part of the climb are superb, as you look back down towards the Mediterranean. The climb itself is challenging, with a reasonable length and a respectable average gradient. Indeed, the final 5km average over 10% - enough to test the strongest of riders, particularly when paired with the fiery Malaga sun. Nevertheless, don't be put off by the gradients - as the climb is pretty steady with nothing too extreme And the views, along with a tranquility that is sometimes hard to find on the Costa del Sol, make this is a very enjoyable climb.
Cerro del Moro is open throughout the year.
Roads & Traffic
The road is in good condition throughout.
The traffic varies, but is generally not too much of a problem if you start from Torremuelle. Most of the climb is very quiet - particularly after passing the junction with the AP-7 motorway. However, the 1km before the motorway junction is a bit busier and more care should be taken here. If you start further along the coast in Benalmádena or Fuengirola, there is more traffic on the earlier part of the climbs as well.
Take particular care with the climb from Fuengirola and avoid the A-387 if possible (the main Fuengirola-Mijas road), as this carries quite a lot of fast moving traffic.
