Climb Description
Collado de la Traviesa is one of our favourite cycling climbs in the Sierra de Cazorla mountains, situated in the Jaén province of Andalucia. It is also one of the most challenging climbs in the region, characterized by inconsistent gradients alongside pleasant scenery, particularly on the upper slopes. The profile reveals the inconsistency of the climb, with many short stretches in excess of 12%, separated by sections of false flat.
La Traviesa is nominally open throughout the year, however it can be closed for short periods in winter due to snow.
Roads & Traffic
The road surface is generally in good condition. The worst section is shortly after leaving Mogón, where it is quite rough and deteriorated due to the number of tractors using the road. The upper part of the climb is very smooth, although can have a bit of loose gravel in places. It is all rideable on a road bike.
Traffic is very light throughout.
