Climb Description
Puerto del Madroño is a climb which links the town of Ronda with the Costa del Sol (including Marbella and Estepona). The climb from San Pedro has been used several times in the Vuelta a España and the Vuelta a Andalcuía and offers some pleasant views looking back down towards the coast. However, it is also a fast and busy road - too busy for cycling safely in our opinion, so we recommend avoiding this route. The other side of El Madroño from Pujerra is a much more enjoyable climb.
Puerto del Madroño is open throughout the year.
Roads & Traffic
The road surface is in very good condition throughout.
This is the main road between Ronda and the Costa del Sol and so there is a lot of traffic on the climb, including trucks. Many of the vehicles drive very quickly, despite the winding nature of the road and make it both unpleasant and potentially dangerous to cycle, we recommend avoiding this climb.
