Climb Description
Trevélez is a long and gradual climb in the Alpujarran Mountains, on the southern side of the larger Sierra Nevada range. The climbs finishes in the village of Trevélez which is historically the highest populated village on mainland Spain (although in the last century many 'new' ski villages have been constructed at higher altitudes). The climb is typical of the region, with olive, cherry and almond trees providing a pleasant backdrop, mixed in with areas with are dry and barren. This ascent, which passes through Pampaneira, has gentle gradients and several downhill and flat sections along the way.
Trevélez is usually open throughout the year. However, snow very occasionally causes short term closures in the winter.

Alternative Routes
Trevélez can be climbed from several other sides, usually using a combination of roads; with starting points including Torvizcón, and Cadiar. However, we recommend avoiding routes which use the busier A-348 road. The climbs from these different sides have a similar profile to this ascent from Órgiva - i.e. long and gradual.
