Climb Description
Javalambre is a very similar climb to its near neighbour Valdelinares. Both are characterized by a long and gentle ascent to a ski resort, but also by the barren scenery which affords little in the way of picturesque scenery. Indeed, the vast car park at the top of the climb to Javalambre is something of a monstrosity.Nevertheless, a climb of this altitude with a good road surface will always have some appeal to road cyclists. If you do find yourself in the area, it is certainly worth climbing - particularly when it is at its most tranquil outside of the busy winter season.
Javalambre is open throughout the year. Short term closures are possible in winter, but the road is generally cleared very quickly to allow access to the ski resort.
Roads & Traffic
The road is in very good condition throughout.
There is very little traffic on the climb during most of the year. In winter - particularly on weekends - the route can be busy with cars driving up to the ski resort; it is noticeably quieter during the rest of the year.
