Climb Description

Unlike many cycling climbs, Mirador del Fito is all about the destination rather than the journey. The climb itself, beginning just outside the industrial town of Arriondas is largely forested and pleasant enough, but without being spectacular.

At the top of the climb, however, you reach the Mirador itself; a raised viewing platform which is famous throughout Spain for its scenery. To the north you will see the coastline of the Cantabrian sea, lined with quiet sandy beaches and rocky coves. To the south you will see the spectacular peaks of the Picos de Europa National Park, including the idiosyncratic summit of Narnajo del Bulnes.

Mirador del Fito has been used at times in the Vuelta a España from this side, although it is more commonly climbed from the north side, preceding a stage finish at Lagos de Covadonga.

The climb is open throughout the year.

Roads & Traffic

The road is in very good condition and there is little traffic on the climb.

Alternative Routes

Mirador del Fito can also be climbed from the north, beginning in the village of Loroñe.
