Climb Description
Asentzio is a largely gentle climb in the heart of the Basque Country. It follows a minor road from the town of Bergara, to a junction close to the village of Elgeta. This is the Basque Country's cycling heartland, with legendary ascents such as Arrate, Puerto de Urkiola and Monte Oiz all potential options to incorporate in a circular ride around here. The scenery is typical of this part of the Basque region; it is largely forested and pleasant, but with no spectacular views. However, the good road surface and lack of traffic make it enjoyable and a better option than the slightly busier GI-2632 between Bergara to Elgeta. The climb is very gentle until the town of Angiozar, where you hit a section at 12%. The gradient then eases off again until the final 2km, which average 8.6%. Asentzio is a climb which is used on the Tour of the Basque Country cycling race.
Asentzio is open throughout the year.
