Garate is a beautiful climb overlooking the town of Getaria on the Basque Coastline. It is a short ascent, with a moderately challenging average gradient, heading inland towards the village of Meaga. Almost immediately from leaving the charming town of Getaria there are fantastic views, both of the coast and of the txakoli vineyards that line the slopes of this climb.Garate is used regularly as a climb in the Tour of the Basque Country, and is well worth a slight detour if you are following a route along the coast. It is open throughout the year.
