Climb Description
Gontzegaraigane is a pleasant climb in the heart of the Basque Country. It is not especially long nor challenging, but it is in a good location to link some of the more famous climbs in the area. The scenery is largely forested, with nice views as the road snakes its way up the climb. On the climb you pass through the village of Bolibar. The village was home to the grandparents of Simón Bolívar - one of the Liberators of South America. His grandparents took the name of the village they were from when they moved to modern-day Venezuela as colonists. In a roundabout way, the country of Bolivia is named after this small village in the Basque Country.
Gontzegaraigane is open throughout the year.
