Climb Description
Herrera from Leza is one of the best cycling climbs in the Alava province of the Basque Country. It is quite typical of a Basque climb, with steep gradients over a fairly short distance; however, its summit is one of the highest in the entire region. The scenery is better on this side, with open views across the Rioja region to the Sierra de la Demanda mountains. On a pleasant day you can clearly see the mountains hosting Valdezcaray and Cruz de la Demanda. Indeed, one or both climbs can be included in a route with Herrera; although if you plan this then you should be prepared for a long and tough day in the saddle!
Herrera is open throughout the year, but is subject to short term closures in the winter following heavy snowfall.
