Climb Description
The climb to Puerto de Itziar follows the main N-634 road between the coastal towns of Deba and Zumaia. The climb from Deba is gentle throughout, with some nice views of the coast, particularly in the first two kilometres. The volume traffic takes something away from the enjoyment of the climb.Itziar is also often used as a climb in the Tour of the Basque Country - although for professional riders this is not a significant challenge by any means.
Itziar is open throughout the year.
Roads & Traffic
The road surface is in very good condition throughout.
Itziar is a main road road and can be busy with traffic at times, particularly during the summer. Lots of cyclists do ride along here, but it is not the most enjoyable stretch of the Basque coast.

Cycling Holidays
Our Basque Country Coast and Bilbao to San Sebastian cycling holidays visit Deba, but we avoid the climb to Itziar because of the traffic. If you really want to, it is possible to ride it, but we recommend other options in the area.In the links below you can find out more about these and other tours that we run in the region.
