Climb Description
Jata is a short climb with quite gentle gradients, running parallel to the coast in the Biscay province of the Basque Country. It is not very challenging for regular cyclists, but it is an enjoyable climb to ride. The climb from Erbera is largely in forest, with some nice viewpoints as you get closer to the coast. Not far from Jata is the popular tourist sight of Gaztelugatxe. However, with many steps, it is not very accessible on a bicycle though and it is also situated on a main road which isn't great for cycling. Combined with the fact that it is quite overcrowded these days, we recommend giving it a miss and heading to nearby Gernika or Lekeitio instead to get a more authentic experience of Basque history.
Jata is open throughout the year.
