Climb Description

Mendeika is a short and pleasant climb, situated near the border between the regions of Alava and Burgos. The climb from Izoria is largely gentle, but with several spikes above 10% gradient which can test the legs. The climb has been used in the Tour of the Basque Country, sometimes as a short test before tackling the more challenging Puerto de Orduña.

The climb is very picturesque, with stunning views across to the rock face of Monte Santiago (the mountain which is home to the Puerto de Orduña). On a clear day, the vibrant shades of green that are so typical of the region, really make for some vivid and striking scenery.

Mendeika is open throughout the year.

Roads & Traffic

The road surface is in good condition and there is virtually no traffic on the climb.
