Climb Description
Mendeika is a short and pleasant climb, situated near the border between the regions of Alava and Burgos. The climb is very picturesque, with stunning views across to the rock face of Monte Santiago (the mountain which is home to the Puerto de Orduña). On a clear day, the vibrant shades of green that are so typical of the region, really make for some vivid and striking scenery. The side from Orduña is comprised of two short ascents, broken up by a long downhill section in the middle; this leads to a rather misleadingly low average gradient of less than 3%. Although Mendeika is not a challenging climb, it is significantly more difficult than an average 3% ascent, with several pitches in double figures.
Mendeika is open throughout the year.
