Climb Description

Urkarregi (also known as Puerto de San Miguel) is a pleasant cycling climb in the Basque Country, situated between the towns of Elgoibar and Etxebarria. It is a climb regularly used in the Tour of the Basque Country cycling race, usually as an intermediate ascent in the race, connecting more challenging ascents.

The ascent from Etxebarria is a very comfortable climb, with gentle gradients and looping corners which are a lot of fun to ride at a good pace. The climbs is forested throughout, and the scenery is pleasant rather than spectacular.

*The height given on the signs at the top of the climb is 360m, but we measured it to be slightly lower - at 346m.

Roads & Traffic

The road is in very good condition throughout and there is little traffic on the climb.

Alternative Routes

Urkarregi can also be climbed from the east, starting in Elgoibar.
