Climb Description
This is the slightly less scenic side of Collado de la Hoz, but it is still an enjoyable climb in typically rolling Cantabrian hills. The excellent road surface and lack of traffic both make this a good climb for cycling. The climb is best known in cycling circles for its role in the 2012 Vuelta a España. It was here where Alberto Contador launched a decisive long range attack, eventually winning the stage at Fuente Dé The attack, from over 60km out on such a gentle climb, caught his rivals unaware and enabled Contador to take minutes out of race leader Joaquim Rodríguez. Contador went on to win the overall race, after holding off attacks on the penultimate stage to Bola del Mundo.
Collado de la Hoz is nearby many other climbs which makes it a good choice to include in a longer route. It is open throughout the year.
