Climb Description
Llano de las Ovejas from Nogar is a really enjoyable ascent. It is a relatively unknown climb, largely due to its isolated location and the fact that it has rarely been used in professional cycling races. However, its remoteness is what appeals most, and the colorful scenery (particularly in late spring when the heather lights up the countryside) adds to the appeal. At the top of the climb you can continue on to a fantastic plateau - a real pleasure to ride at such a high altitude.
Llano de las Ovejas literally means Plateau of sheep. You will still see some farm animals along the climb, but this climb is also the domain of wolves. You are very unlikely to spot the notoriously timid Iberian wolf, but their presence gives you an idea of how tranquil and untouched this part of Spain remains.
Roads & Traffic
The road surface is in reasonable condition. It is fully paved and is fine for climbing and descending; however, it has quite a heavy feel and is a bit bumpy in places.
There is very little traffic on the climb throughout the year.
