Climb Description
Picó del Fraile is a pleasant climb up to a military radar station situated on the border between the provinces of Burgos and Cantabria. It is essentially two climbs in one as you first climb to the Puerto de Lunada, before turning off on the road to the radar - which is situated on the peak of the mountain. The scenery is more barren on this side than the northern climb from Cantabria, but it is still a truly spectacular climb and should be towards the top of the list to ride if you are in the area.
Roads & Traffic
The road is in fairly good as far as Puerto de Lunada. It is fully asphalted but it is quite a rough and bumpy surface. After turning off towards the top of Picó del Fraile, the surface is in very good condition.
There is very little traffic on the climb throughout the year.
