Climb Description

Puerto de Montenegro is a pleasant climb which finishes on the border between La Rioja and Soria provinces. The ascent on the Soria side is shorter and easier. It is also the slightly more scenic side, with much of the climb out in the open, affording pleasant views across the hills bordering the Spanish meseta

Puerto de Montenegro is open throughout the year subject to weather - short-term closures due to snow are possible in winter.

Roads & Traffic

The road is in reasonable condition; it is fully asphalted but is quite a bumpy surface.

There is little traffic on the climb.

Alternative Routes

Puerto de Montenegro can also be climbed from La Rioja province - beginning near Viniegra de Abajo.
