Climb Description
Coll de Canes is a pleasant climb in the Garrotxa area of Catalunya, which links the towns of Olot and Ripoll. It used to be the main road through the region, but a faster road has since been built to the north and so the Coll de Canes now carries little traffic - making it a great choice for cyclists. The climb from Ripoll is very gentle and will pose no difficulties for most cyclists. It is a nice climb to use as part of a longer ride, and the pleasant (if not spectacular) scenery, makes it a nice option.
The Coll de Canes has been used once before in the Vuelta a España and numerous times in the Volta a Catalunya. The sole stage in the Vuelta took place in 2005 and saw a young Joaquim Rodríguez lead the race over the climb.
Coll de Canes is open throughout the year.
Roads & Traffic
The road surface is in very good condition throughout.
This is little traffic on the road once you have left Ripoll. The first kilometre can be slightly busier, but there is a wide hard shoulder here to keep you out of any traffic.
