Climb Description
La Vansa from Sant Llorenc is a pleasant climb to a ski area in the Catalan Pyrenees. It is one of the highest climbs in the area and gets increasingly steeper towards the top, making it a challenging ascent. The climb first reaches the Coll de Port; however, before this there is the option to turn to Port del Comte, instead of continuing to La Vansa. We would recommend going to La Vansa, which is a smaller and more picturesque climb, rather than continuing to the large and more developed resort of Port del Comte.
The climb is mostly in forest for the opening part, which follows a rolling road. The scenery becomes more open and scenic towards the top of the climb. If you plan to begin the climb from Solsona, it is important to take the LV-4241 rather than the C-462 as far as Sant Llorenc de Morunys. The latter road has several long tunnels which are dangerous for cycling. The route on the LV-4241 is the first part of the the Port del Comte as far as the Coll de Jou.
La Vansa is usually open throughout the year, with any snow cleared during winter to allow access to the ski area.
Roads & Traffic
The road surface is in good condition and there is generally very little traffic on the climb.
