Climb Description
This is a fun short climb in the north of Gran Canaria. It follows the winding GC-291, which used to be the main road along the north coast until the motorway was built, but is now very quiet. It's not a difficult ascent by Gran Canarian standards, but is rewarding thanks to the spectacular views of the coast and surrounding banana plantations. The climb finishes at the Cenobio de Valerón caves, which are an important archaeological site on the island. The niches in the caves were used by the native Guanche people to store grain and other foodstuffs until the Spanish conquest in the 15th century.
The climb to Cenobio de Valerón is open throughout the year.
