Climb Description
The climb takes a variety of back roads, starting near the town of Tamaraceite (Las Palmas), to reach the scenic viewpoint of Cruz de Tejeda. It avoids the busier roads around the capital of Gran Canaria and has pleasant scenery throughout, with impressive open views in places. The climb is long and inconsistent, with a particularly steep section between 8km and 10km, where the gradient is well into double figures for long periods. This is a challenging, but rewarding climb that is well worth considering if you are staying in or around Las Palmas.
The last section is particualrly impressive, with fine views through open scenery as you approach the Cruz de Tejeda viewpoint. From here it is also possible to continue all the way to Pico de las Nieves - the highest point on the island.
Roads & Traffic
The road surface is a bit inconsistent. It is generally in very good condition, but there are a few shortish sections where it is rough or cracked. Even the rougher sections though are absolutely
fine to ride on a road bike.
There is very little traffic throughout the climb.
Cruz de Tejeda is also situated just a short distance from the various climbs to Pinos de Gáldar and Pico de las Nieves.
