Climb Description
This climb to the Mogán viewpoint is long, but very gentle. The climb begins near to the coast and the picturesque fishing village of Puerto de Mogán. It follows the GC-200 road through several villages, including the town of Mogán itself as it climbs up to a pass in the mountains. It's not the most scenic climb in this part of the island, but is pleasant enough, and is a good route to choose if you want to do an easy ride, or as way to get to the more challenging mountains in the heart of Gran Canaria.
Please be aware that it is currently a little complicated to make this climb into a circular ride by returning to Maspalomas. The coastal road (GC-500) between Puerto de Mogán and Puerto Rico is closed and is not passable by bicycle. The only other road to reach Puerto de Mogán is the motorway which has long tunnels and isn't possible to cycle.
So, in order to include this in a circular ride, it is necessary to catch the ferry from Puerto Rico (or Arguineguín) to Puerto de Mogán. Alternatively you can reach the top of this climb via the climb to Risco Grande.
Mogán is open throughout the year.
Roads & Traffic
The road surface is generally in good condition. It is slightly cracked in places, but still fine for riding on a road bike.
This is slightly busier than some of the other climbs in Gran Canaria, particularly on the first part of the climb. But the traffic isn't too bothersome for cycling (it very rarely is in Gran Canaria).
