Climb Description
This is the easier side of the climb to San Bartolomé de Tirajana. It's one of the most gentle of the long ascents in Gran Canaria, with quite steady gradients and several flat or downhill sections to help you recover. The climb follows the GC-65 road out of Vecindario and begins through an arid semi-desert like landscape. After passing through the picturesque village of Santa Lucía, everything becomes much greener and more dramatic, as the high volcanoes in the center of the island come to dominate the lanscape, towering over the road.
This is a great climb and can also be included with others in the area to make an excellent circular ride. In particular, we recommend combining this with the ascent to Temisas from Aguimes. This side of the climb is also commonly descended by cyclists, who then continue along the (rather busy and unpleasant) GC-500 road back to the south coast around Maspalomas.
San Bartolomé is open throughout the year.

The road surface is in very good condition throughout.
There are some cars on the climb, particularly until Santa Lucía. But it is not really bothersome for cycling.
