Climb Description
Passo di Mortirolo from Mazzo is one of the iconic cycling climbs in the world. It is known primarily for its steep gradients and difficulty; however, it is also a fantastic road to ride - with almost no traffic and beautiful scenery.A regular these days in the Giro d'Italia race, the Mortirolo from Mazzo is simply a great climb. The road begins by climbing steeply through villages and follows a long series of numbered hairpin bends. Shortly after the memorial to Marco Pantani it joins the ascent from Grosio and kicks up again until the finishing line .
The scenery is in forest for much of the ascent, with beautiful larch trees regularly giving way to offer spectacular views of the valley. Although, given the effort you will be putting in, it is not always so easy to appreciate it!
Mortirolo is best climbed from May to October, but can be open longer in some years.

The road surface is in very good condition and there is almost no traffic throughout.
