Climb Description
Muro di Sormano is a short and very steep climb, which is used as a decisive part of the Giro di Lombardia cycling race. The climb has several sections in excess of 20% gradient, and is essentially a cycle lane - completely closed to cars. The main challenge of the Muro di Sormano is obviously the gradient rather than the length, and the elevation is actually printed on the road at one meter intervals. Whether this is a good or bad thing probably depends on how your legs are feeling. But, either way, it certainly gives a special feel to the climb.
Muro di Sormano finishes at the La Colma peak. From here, many riders descend down to the edge of Lake Como, continue to Bellagio and complete a circle by ascending the delightful Madonna del Ghisallo.
Muro di Sormano is usually open throughout the year, but may close for short periods in winter after heavy snowfall.

Alternative Routes
This is the only way to climb the Muro di Sormano. There is a parallel road (SP-44) which is much easier and comes out at the same place at the top. But, as with life, Muro di Sormano is all about the journey not the destination.Nearby Climbs
