Climb Description
Passo Nigra via Brie is a long climb which contains a torturous section in its midst. It is a quiet and very scenic way to reach Passo Nigra, but includes a significant stretch in excess of 20% gradient, which also makes it by far the toughest side to climb. The scenery is varied; at times it is in forest, but it also opens up with regular viewpoints looking over the stunning pastures which pop up regularly on this side of the Bolzano valley. The combination of scenery and lack of traffic, makes this our favourite side of the climb.
Much of the climb from this side is the same as the ascent from Prato all'Isarco; the ascent from Prato follows a busier road at the start of the climb, to avoid the steep sections around Brie.
Passo Nigra is best climbed from May to October.
