Climb Description
Navafría is one of the most enjoyable cycling climbs in the Madrid region and is very popular with local riders. It has a perfect road surface, low traffic and nice steady gradients - the opposite to many of the famous ascents in this part of Spain. The scenery is more typical of the region - and in particular the Guadarrama Mountains. Nearly all of the route is within forest and, although it is pleasant, there are no really spectacular views. The climb finishes on the border with Castilla-y-León at a small ski area.
Navafría is open throughout the year. Short term closures are possible in winter, but the road is usually cleared quickly.
