Climb Description
Coll d'en Claret is a picturesque climb situated in the south-western part of the Tramuntana Mountains. It can be climbed from various directions, and links up with several other ascents nearby, including Es Grau and Can Costa. The first part of this climb, is also the same as the ascent to Port de Valldemossa. The highlight of this side of the climb is heading through the town of Valldemossa. Here you can visit the 13th Century royal charterhouse, which was also a former home of the composer Frederic Chopin. The climb is not the most enjoyable until Valldemossa, as you ride along a relatively busy road, with some relatively steep gradients, by Mallorcan standards.
After passing Valldemossa, there is a long downhill section, before the final climb up to the pass. This part of the climb is more scenic as you enter the picturesque landscapes of the Tramuntana range.
The climb to Coll d'en Claret is open throughout the year.
Roads & Traffic
The road surface is generally in excellent condition, having mostly been repaved in the last few years.
The first part of the route to Valldemossa is often quite busy with traffic, including coaches. This is also the steeper part of the route and so it can be annoying with vehicles overtaking often. It is for this reason that we have only given the route a ** rating; however, as usual in Mallorca, most drivers are very courteous towards cyclists.
After Valldemossa the traffic thins out considerably and is fine to the top of the pass.
