Climb Description
La Aldea is a really pleasant climb situated near to the border of the Navarra and Alava provinces. The ascent from Bernedo is a very steady climb on which it is very easy to settle into a comfortable rythym. After a few early hairpins, the climb enters forest and the scenery from here is nice rather than spectacular, although it does open out impressively at the very top.The southern side of La Aldea is the heart of the Rioja-Alavesa region - one of the most famous wine producing areas in the world, and much of the scenery is dominated by vineyards. However, the eastern edge of the Cantabrian Mountains also provide a dramatic backdrop to the north.
The summit of La Aldea is in Navarra, while the first part of the climb (including Bernedo) is in the Alava part of the the Basque Country.
La Aldea is open throughout the year, but is subject to short term closures in the winter following heavy snowfall.
