Climb Description
Col d'Agnes is a great climb which has been criminally underused by the Tour de France. It has appeared just five times in the race and only twice from Aulus-les-Bains - the significantly more challenging side. Riders to crest the Agnes first have inlcuded Marco Pantani and Michael Rasmussen - showing that it is an ascent forCol d'Agnes - particularly when tackled from this side, starting in Aulus-les-Bains, is one of the most scenic climbs in the Ariège Pyrenees. The lower part is in forest, but the switchbacks towards the top offer fantastic views over to the high mountains that form the borders with Andorra and Spain. The Agnes is a great climb to include in a longer route, combining it with, for example, Col de Latrappe, Col de Port or Col de la Core.
Col d'Agnes is open throughout much of the year, subject to weather, but be aware that short term closures are common in winter.
