Climb Description
Col d'Agnes is a great climb which has been criminally underused by the Tour de France. It has appeared just a handful of times in the race, with the side from Massat the more commonly used of the two.The climb from Massat is the easier side, with the first 5km little more than a false flat. The gradient does then kick up, but rarely exceeds 8%. The scenery is nice on the lower part of the climb, running alongside the River Arac; however, it becomes much more spectacular as the hairpin bends start towards the top and the high mountain peaks become visible. The Agnes is a great climb to include in a longer route, combining it with, for example, Col de Latrappe, Col de Port or Col de la Core. The first 14km of the Col d'Agnes from Massat is the same climb as Port de Lers.
Col d'Agnes is open throughout the year, subject to weather, but be aware that short term closures are common in winter.
