Climb Description
Col d'Azet is not one of the most cycling famous climbs in the Pyrenees, even though it has appeared numerous times in the Tour de France in recent years. Its lack of fame is probably because it usually occurs early in the route and is overshadowed by a big finish on Pla d'Adet. However, the list of riders who have led the race over the pass is impressive, and includes Joaquim Rodríguez, Marco Pantani and Laurent Jalabert. The climb from Génos is the more challenging side, with the road working its way up via a series of short and steep switchbacks. It begins from near the picturesque lake at Génos, before heading into trees for the first part of the climb. The scenery opens up towards the top of the climb. with fantastic views looking across the valley towards the Col de Peyresourde.
The Col d'Azet from Génos is usually open throughout the year to allow access to the nearby Val Louron ski station.
Roads & Traffic
The road surface is in good condition throughout; although it is often relaid in summer which can lead to their being a lot of loose gravel.
