Climb Description
Col de la Core is something of the ugly duckling amongst the great cycling climbs in the Pyrenees. It is quite easy, fairly unspectacular and in a slightly out of the way location. Indeed, the Tour de France has tackled the climb on fewer than ten occasions - a pitiful amount compared with some of the neighbouring ascents. There is not really much to say about the Col de la Core. It is pleasant enough and in most other locations in Europe it would be regarded as a marquee climb. However, in the Pyrenees it is overshadowed by more challenging, more illustrious and more scenic climbs nearby. By all means include it as part of a longer route, but we would not recommend spending a day to specifically do this climb.
Col de la Core is open throughout the year, subject to weather. Closures due to snow are common in the winter.
Roads & Traffic
The road surface is generally in good condition. It is not the smoothest that you will find, but there are no significant holes and no loose gravel. It is absolutely no problem to climb on a road bike, but is a bit bumpy.
There is little traffic on the climb.
