Climb Description
Col de Port is perhaps the easiest of the 'big' climbs in the Pyrenees, particularly when climbed from Massat. The gradient is very regular and very rarely exceeds a modest 6%. For professionals it is a very easy ascent and, although it has been used several times in the Tour de France, it is usually early in a stage, transitioning towards a harder climb. The climb from Massat is in trees for much of the ascent, with no really spectacular views until you reach the col itself. From here the scenery really opens up as you look down towards the Ariège Valley. Col de Port is a good climb to include as part of a longer route or on an easier day.
Col de Port is usually open throughout the year.
