Climb Description
Coll de Jau is one of the best 'lesser-known' cycling climbs of the Pyrenees range. Its relatively low altitude masks some of its difficulty, with the last 12km averaging over 6.5%.The climb from Prades is probably the most scenic road climb in the Catalan Pyrenees. In particular, the first half of the climb offers stunning views as the narrow road winds along a balcony overlooking a dramatic gorge. The upper part is more forested, but there are still some clearings and nice hairpin bends to give you something to aim for!
Coll de Jau can be open throughout the year, but closures (usually short term) are fairly common during winter.
Roads & Traffic
The road surface is paved throughout, but it is a bit rough and bumpy in places. The upper slopes can also have some loose gravel.
There is some traffic in the first 5km. However, after passing through Molitg-les-Bains, and particularly after Mosset, the climb is very quiet.
