Climb Description
Alto de Teix (also known as El Collao) is a deceptively tough climb, which has lulled many cyclists into a false sense of security with its benign average gradient. The first six kilometres actually offer some tough riding, with fairly long sections hovering between 12% and 15%, separated by short sections of flat. The climb is also exposed to the elements for nearly all of the ascent (and the sun here can be very hot in summer).Because of its location as a link between popular climbs such as Port de Tudons, La Carrasqueta and Port de Benifallim, Alto de Teix is often included as part of a challenging longer ride. Be careful not to underestimate this one though!
Aside from the difficulty, Alto de Teix is a very pleasant climb to ride. The road surface is generally excellent and the scenery has plenty of variety; beginning in a small gorge before it climbs through almond fields which are ubiquitous in the Alicante region - where they are used to make the dessert turrón.
Alto de Teix is open throughout the year.
