Climb Description
Benimantell is a popular climb which links the Costa Blanca with the inland mountains, including the spectacular Sierra de Aitana range. It is characterized by a large and quite busy road, with some consistently steep gradients in the middle part of the climb. It is not the most scenic climb in the area, with the highlight being Benimantell itself at the top of the climb, from where you can take several other more enjoyable routes. The climb to Benimantell can actually be started from the coast in Benidorm, staying on the CV-70 the whole way. There is a cycle lane alongside the main road, but the first stretch from Benidorm to Polop is particularly tedious to ride, because of the high number of roundabouts and lack of interesting scenery.
Confrides, for example, runs parallel and is much more scenic and enjoyable.
Roads & Traffic
The road is in excellent condition throughout. It is quite a busy road, particularly on the lower part of the climb around Polop and La Nucia; however, there is a wide cycle lane
alongside the road which keeps you out of the traffic.
