Climb Description
Chirivilla (also known as Pico del Águila) is a pleasant cycling climb situated on the border of the Valencia and Castellón provinces. It is in the Sierra Calderona mountain range; an area which is famed for its many olive, orange and almond trees. The climb from Segorbe passes through farms which are cultivating olive trees for sale. The scenery here is largely in trees and it is pleasant rather than spectacular for riding. The final 4km are much more scenic, as the road opens up and follows a series of long looping bends to the pass.
Chirivilla is open throughout the year, and the mild Mediterranean climate makes it a really enjoyable climb in the winter.
Roads & Traffic
The road is in mixed condition for the first 5km. It is fully asphalted and generally fine for riding, but there are short sections with loose gravel. The surface for the final 4km is in excellent condition.
There is little traffic on the climb.
