Climb Description
The Coll del Cid from Agost is a quiet and irregular climb in the Sierra del Cid mountains, not far from the city of Alicante. It is not particularly challenging for the most part, but there are a couple of sections that average over 12% gradient for a few hundred metres. The scenery here is pleasant and has a remote feel. It is best included as part of a longer route (for example if you wish to cycle Xorret de Catí as a circular ride), rather than doing it as a ride by itself.
The main negative aspect of the climb is that the road surface is quite deteriorated in places. It is always passable on a road bike, but it makes for a bumpy ride in the final few kilometres. If you have a mountain bike this is a fantastic area for riding, with a great Via Verde running from Agost, and with many trails to explore in the Maigmó mountains.
The climb to Coll del Cid is open throughout the whole year.
Roads & Traffic
The road surface is of variable quality. The first few kilometres after Agost are in excellent condition, but it gets worse the higher you climb, and is very rough and bumpy towards the top.
There is very little traffic on the climb.
