Climb Description
Cumbre del Sol from Alcasar is a short and steep cycling climb on the Costa Blanca, which shot to fame in 2015 when it hosted a stage finish of the Vuelta a España. The climb produced spectacular action, with numerous star riders cracking, before Tom Dumoulin eventually managed to claim the win.The gradient is consistently steep and there are numerous sections which are over 15%, with one sustained pitch at 18%. Watching the likes of Alejandro Valverde, Chris Froome and Joaquim Rodríguez all cracking at various times on the ascent, tells you all that you need to know about its difficulty!
Cumbre del Sol is open and is enjoyable to climb throughout the year.
Roads & Traffic
The road surface is in very good condition and there is little traffic on the climb. Which is just as well, because you may need to weave across the full width of the road at times!
