Climb Description
Miserat is certainly one of the toughest road climbs in the Alicante province. The climb from Pego is not quite the hardest side, but it is still a very challenging ascent. The overall average gradient masks the inconsistency of the climb. There are long sections where is is up 20%, followed by flatter parts where you can try to recover.Miserat is situated in a very popular area for cyclists, and is within easy reach of Calpe, Denia and Benidorm on the Costa Blanca. However, it is much less popular than some of the easier ascents in the area. A shame in our opinion, because, aside from the difficulty, Miserat is a very picturesque climb, with the upper half offering views in all directions. The top of the climb is the highest point around and provides views over the coast as well as the scenic Gallinera and Ebo valleys.
Miserat is open throughout the year.
Roads & Traffic
The road surface is of mixed quality. The first part of the climb, leaving Pego, is in good condition, but progressively deteriorates as you climb higher. It remains passable on a road bike at all times, but after 4km you have to negotiate a few pot-holes and occasional stretches of loose gravel. The final kilometre has
recently been repaved and is very good condition.
